January 2026 reading (to be discussed first Thursday of February)

First meeting: Mhudi by Sol T. Plaatje (1930)
For our first meeting, we'll be reading Mhudi (1930) by Sol T. Plaatje -- a short, compelling novel set in southern Africa at a moment of enormous historical change. Often described as the earliest novel in English by a Black South African writer, Mhudi combines history, myth, and storytelling in a way that rewards reflection and discussion.
We'll meet in the evening at Café Bassam in Bankers Hill, a comfortable café that serves coffee and wine and is well-suited for conversation. You're very welcome even if you didn't finish every page. Please RSVP if you plan to attend, as attendance is capped to keep the discussion intimate.
