📚 Banned Book Baddies Meetup 📚
Join us for our next Banned Book Baddies meetup—a space for rebellious readers, free thinkers, and literary adventurers who believe in the power of books that challenge, provoke, and inspire. We celebrate the banned, the challenged, and the controversial, because the stories they try to silence are often the ones that matter most.
This month, we’re continuing our deep dive into George Orwell’s 1984—a novel that remains eerily relevant in today’s world of surveillance, censorship, and truth distortion. Bring your thoughts, insights, and your favorite dystopian conspiracy theories as we unravel the themes of control, resistance, and the fight for intellectual freedom.
We’ll also be voting on our next banned book selection! Have a title in mind? Bring your suggestions, or choose from our list of notorious reads, including:
📖 The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (banned for political and religious reasons)
📖 Beloved by Toni Morrison (challenged for its raw portrayal of history and trauma)
📖 Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe (frequently banned in recent years for LGBTQ+ themes)
📖 Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut (censored for its anti-war stance and dark humor)
📖 The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie (banned for discussing race, poverty, and identity)
Whether you’re a longtime book rebel or new to the fight for literary freedom, come be part of the conversation! Let’s read dangerously.
Big Brother may be watching, but we’re still reading. See you there!
