What we’re about

Baraboo could use a writers' group. Not just one that meets and chats—but one that actually writes. I’m not claiming perfection, but I’m ready to get this rolling.

I write speculative fiction—fantasy, sci-fi, sometimes horror—but not the kind that leans on hard science. My stories often come from dreams, memories, and whatever shows up when I sit down with a smooth black pen and a blank page. For me, longhand and cursive are my starters prior to the keys. That’s where the floodgates open.

Right now, I’m deep in the final edit of my memoir. It’s detailed, personal, and not for the faint of heart. I’ve got a Master’s in English and Creative Writing (fiction emphasis), but more importantly, I’ve been writing for 40 years—and I’m still sharpening my voice every day. Commas aside.

This group will be monthly, theme-based, and focused on short stories—ideally under 2,500 words, but we won’t be rigid. I want to explore the macabre, the surreal, the speculative. No romance. No slow, meandering prose. I’m open to almost anything else, as long as it’s got teeth.

One rule: no AI-generated stories. Use your own voice. Use a thesaurus if you want—digital or dusty—but the words should be yours.

If you’re curious, restless, or just tired of writing in a vacuum, send me a message. Let’s build something real.
