Unpacking the Possession Paradox

Details

How having - and even becoming - what we once wanted can still leave us wanting.. something else.

Those rooted in tight-knit communities long to be more themselves.
Those free to be themselves crave deeper connection.
We want freedom, but feel lost without rules.
We want change, but resist it as soon as it arrives.

Even whole societies reflect this tension:
Communist countries tend to have stability but little choice, and often long for freedom and abundance.
Capitalist societies offer freedom and abundance, but frequently long for simplicity and connection.

As soon as we approach what we’ve been striving for, something shifts. What once felt essential starts to lose its value. Our perspective changes, and so does what we desire next. This recurring sense of “it’s still not quite enough” is what we call the Possession Paradox.

In this talk, we will explore: 

  • What lies beneath the possession paradox 
  • How we can strive for a better world and appreciate the one we’re in 
  • How to decide what’s truly worth pursuing in a world where our desires, values, and identities are always shifting

Join Rudolf for a thought-provoking talk that invites a fresh perspective on how we live, strive, and find meaning.
