TALK DESCRIPTION
For all its history, Qt has offered widgets as the ready made user interface controls to get something into the screen. At the end of the Qt 4.x cycle, a new technology called Qt Quick was added, which was a very different approach to do things, and which still competes with (or complements) Qt Widgets.
Many newcomers, and let's face it, even seasoned Qt developers, get a bit confused with the terminology, and end up making a mess when trying to explain the differences between Qt Widgets and Qt Quick, and not many people use the terms QML and Qt Quick correctly.
In this talk we'll show a bit organization of the different Qt modules, and will show three possible ways get something drawn into the screen and that the user can interact with. First we will only use "official" Qt modules: Qt Widgets, Qt Quick, and a third one which is not OpenGL. Can you guess which is? You'll have to come to the talk to know! :-)
Later we will even show some third party libraries that you can also use as alternatives to the other examples.
It will be all hands on with no boring slides, just the apps and small code samples.
SPEAKER
Alex has known Qt since the early Qt 3 times, and has been passionate about it since even before, thanks to the KDE project. He has a knack for trying too many things and becoming master in none, but Qt is the one technology that has stayed strong for years. He has been a developer in Viking Software since 2015.
