About us
Hello, I'm Antoine and let me give you a bit of background about this meetup!
3 years ago, I took over this community with a simple vision: to introduce people to barefoot walking and explore amazing places together by being fully present to our senses. Since then, our group has grown to over 250 amazing members!
Think of this group as a space to practice intentional barefoot time. Just like going to the gym for an hour of strength training, spending dedicated time barefoot outdoors is a practice that restores your body's natural function (at least it does for me!)
Whether you walk barefoot for ten minutes or the entire meetup, or transition slowly using minimalist shoes, you move entirely at your own pace.
Thank you so much for landing here, you took the first step toward an incredible barefoot journey!
### But why walk barefoot?
Our feet are engineering masterpieces. Packed with over 200,000 nerve endings and dozens of muscles, joints, and tendons, they are designed to move naturally, feel the ground, and build a strong foundation for the entire body. Modern shoes act like sensory-deprivation chambers, dampening our connection to nature. Going barefoot changes everything:
- Natural strength & balance: Walking barefoot restores your natural gait, strengthens the small stabilizer muscles in your feet and ankles, and improves posture, alignment, and mobility from your hips to your core.
- Enhanced sensory awareness & mindfulness: Feeling the textures beneath your feet immediately brings your mind into the present moment. Itβs a built-in form of moving meditation.
