BIG IMPORTANT BUILD DAY FOR MAKER FAIRE!!!
Are you planning on going to the Maker Faire in September and want to be a part of the Barrel of Maker's building project? Do you want to see Carl's shop and use some loud dangerous power tools to eviscerate pine?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, come on out on Sunday July 27 to Middletown. We are going to be doing a whole lot of work on the Quite Brite - Interactive Light Display.
The Quite Brite - Interactive Light Display is a system of modules of fluorescent light fixtures framed with 2x6 and bolted together to create an 8'x8' panel of light from which over 140 individually created pixelated icons made of pegboard and acrylic rods will be illuminated from behind creating a quilt combining the efforts of all who participate.
THIS WILL BE A BIG DAY FOR US. WE NEED AS MUCH HELP AS WE CAN GET. THE LIST OF ACTIVITIES IN PART FOLLOWS.
- FRAMING LIGHT BOXES
a. 2x6s will be rabbeted using a table saw.
b. 2x6s will have notches cut in to accept cross beams using table saw with dado blade.
c. 2x6s will be notched with chisel or jigsaw to allow light fixture hinge to seat.
d. light fixtures will be wired with power cords to their ballasts
e. frames will be drilled to accept wing nuts and bolts for modular assembly.
f. superstructure legs will be made from 2x4s to attach and support completed structure.
g. traveling brackets will be formed from scrap 1x2
h. frames will be painted black on the front
- OTHER THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE
a. finish air nailing small boxes together using jig.
b. finish cutting acrylic pegs.
c. apply pegboard and felt/velcro to small boxes
d. eat lunch
