Hello and welcome to the West Tokyo Dodgers Baseball Team or WTD Meet Up Group. WTD has 4 teams at different levels in Tokyo. This site you are looking at presently is for our junior high/middle school players, and so are from the ages of 12 to 15 years old, or grades 7, 8 & 9.

For younger players please go to the other meet up group, which you can go to by clicking here: WTD Shamrocks and Maples Teams. We also have a casual adult team as well, located here:  WTD Adults

The Dodgers teams are bilingual with our WTD younger teams (Shamrocks & Maples levels) being virtually all-English, but with many bilingual players from many other countries too. The WTD (Oak Level) is more a true mix of both Japanese and English speakers. The adult team has lots of Japanese players that speak English and is much more casual for those that must focus on their jobs.

The West Tokyo Dodgers (Oak Level) play in the Japanese Pony League, which is a league run out of the USA.  When the Dodgers are successful in their tournaments they can go on to play in the Asian Pony League Championship in another Asian country, and then on to the World Finals held in North America.

The practices are usually held in West Tokyo on Saturdays, Sundays & holidays, but also other locations in greater Tokyo and the surrounding prefectures. Carpooling is common for further away spots, so that parents won’t have to deliver them beyond a meet up point, and a player can ride the trains with other players to get to most of the main meet up points if a drive in not availble.

The West Tokyo Dodgers is the only serious private English speaking group of baseball teams to be found in Japan for the international community, as other such teams are only for individual school related activities or are part of US Military Base Teams.

Therefore our year round program means we have the most talented level of play for the international community. We also have the only youth teams that go head-to-head with the extremely strong all-Japanese teams that practice year round too. The younger teams practice at the American School in Japan on Sundays in Chofu-shi, Tokyo,  but please contact us first about your showing up due to security.

This site is for the new English speakers that join the team, as there is a Japanese site too. So please don't judge the numbers on this level of team by RSVPs, as there are about 22 players on this level of the Dodgers.

The youth teams have a practice uniform that players need to buy at a local store, as all reasonably large sporting goods stores carry this uniform, as it is standard for all teams here in Japan. Here is a picture of the team version that has some navy blue parts you need to choose, so have a look before you buy anything: WTD Practice Uniform

Youth players also need a pair of of "all-black spikes" baseball shoes & a set of "all-white non-spike" baseball shoes. Here linked below is a store that carries such gear and much more, yet you can find most of what you need at any large sporting goods retailer: Baseman
