Castle Altenberg and tower hike over Liestal
Details
This week we're staying close to home and checking out a small castle ruin in the hills east over Frenkendorf/Liestal plus a viewing tower... and in addition to that, there should also be a special surprise feature somewhere in the middle of the hike.
We'll depart our meeting place (in front of SBB in between the green ticket machines by the tram bays) at 12:15 and catch the 12:20 train (S1 direction Frick, platform 1) and change at Kaiseraugst, catch the 12:37 bus (number 72, direction Lupsingen) and get off at Giebenach, Lindenplatz.
From there we'll hike southward up into the Büechlihau ridge where we find our castle ruins. From there we continue south into the Ebisberg hills up to the highest point where we'll visit the "Liestal Eiffel Tower". Bring 50 Rp to get through the gate. From there we'll hike down Roti Flue to the Liestal old town where we'll get drinks at Restaurant Törli.
Trains leave from Liestal to Basel so often it's hardly worth mentioning. The hike is 10.8 km with 446m of ascents. As always bring hydration, layers and good footwear. See you Sunday!
