If you live in Bettingen, in many villages of Basel-Land or im Schwarzbubenland, Banntag is a yearly event happening in May, mostly on this day.

Bann is an 1000 year old German word meaning boundries. Getting banished means not being allowed inside the bann.

Google for your village when and where it talkes place. Usually there is a combination of food, speaches and a walk around part of the borders. Some villages like Liestal only allow men...

Liesberg, where I am going, we meet at 1330 at the Rössliplatz / Dorfplatz and hike for around 8 km. The hike is not too difficult, but there are parts when we follow the border, not paths.

There will be a speach followed by music and food. Bring your own plate, glass and cutlery.

Food will be offered, not sure for free but usually you pay for drinks.

I will be on the 1238 Train from Basel SBB, track 16. But I will get on the train at Basel, Dreispitz.
