Sentiment Analysis Workshop
Details
Did this person give a good or bad review? Train your model to recognise positive and negative sentiment of film reviews. From first principles to a working model for determining the polarity of reviews!
We will be exploring the exiting subject of sentiment analysis from the ground up, covering both the theory behind sentiment analysis, and implementing a couple of models in Python. The theory won't be too mathematical, and the practice won't assume any previous experience with Python, so this event is aimed at beginners. It will be a workshop-like environment, so bring your computers, and make sure you've got the necessary software installed! (See below)
Recommend installing:
Jupyter Notebook through Anaconda (https://www.continuum.io/downloads) - This is a notebook that can run code! It allows you to execute code in a chunk-by-chunk fashion. If this software is new to you, I recommend playing around with it a bit before the meetup. An example for you to play around with can be found here (https://github.com/Bath-ML/parking/blob/master/python/predict-decision-tree.ipynb). Give us a shout on the #python channel on Slack (see below) if you run into any trouble during the installation.
Slack - a team-chat application. Entirely optional, but I recommend installing so that you can ask for help if you get lost during the practical session of the workshop. Once you've installed Slack, please use this site (https://bathml.herokuapp.com/)to generate an invite to our group! I will create a channel for this event closer to the date.
Although this will be provided again on the day, in a more digestible format, for the really excited amongst you, you can find the dataset we'll be using here (https://www.cs.cornell.edu/people/pabo/movie-review-data/rt-polaritydata.tar.gz).
I look forward to seeing you all!
Roger
