People are complex.

Have you ever asked yourself, what does she/he really mean? Is it because of the way I spoke? Would there be any difference if I spoke at a different time, different place?

This could happen when you try to approach a beautiful girl, this could happen when you try to negotiate a promotion from an elusive manager. In many parts of life, you have to do inter person communications, and each often carry significant stakes. There are ways to handle the ping pong between people, the unspoken protocol, yet it is often passed down in living rooms, on dinner tables, or expensive executive coaches or behavior therapists, not in school. So we often come unprepared.

The good news is that people skills can be learned, and there are abundant books out there. The bad news is that like sports skills, this is a craft, you have to practice to master. And to practice it on others, in either personal or professional occasions, the stakes are high.

Here comes our Minds on Move series, covering topics directly related to our lives, physically or spiritually. The topic of our first event is: People Skills in AI times, with Lab.

AI is making huge difference on this, cause it could provide us timely feedback as to how we should behave and talk, often in real time, so what was once fixed personality, now is becoming modifiable and navigable personal trait.

  • We will meet in a beer garden,
  • share some (soft) drinks,
  • discuss while strolling down the Castro street of downtown Mountain View,
  • and stop at Eagle Park and the lawn chairs at the Civic Plaza,
  • then make plans for next move there.

The reason we start with such a topic is that we often found ourselves facing the exact same questions when trying to deal with people in community context. Are we talking the right way, did we approach people correctly, what others would think of our behavior, how people would respond to our proposals? Did we read people right, what we can do to make people feel accepted, seen and thus more willing to go with us happily? Did what we do really help people?

That are a lot of questions to get answers, and we would like to find that out together with you. So the discussion topics and lab we are going to cover are:

  1. People skill & personality are becoming navigable traits at time of AI, easily remediable with timely correction.
  2. And because we (TownFlame) organize community social events in large community gatherings around town, local, SF & Santa Cruz etc., we got tons of chances for people to practice their people and crowd skills, as volunteer hosts, as lab.
  3. People are far more accommodating under community context.
  4. We also organize interested people in cohorts, so you can learn not only from your own practice, but also others.

Of course you are not required to do anything, but why not try? You have cohorts to make mistakes together, and it is optional so you don't have obligation, yet it is fun and social to help hosting events. What if you ran into somebody interesting? None of the baggage, full of opportunities.

This is our beta run of a new series. The format would be have a topic, find a beautiful place to stroll or light hike together, could be a nice city downtown, or a beautiful park. The weather is nice, come help us shape this new series, leave your own mark.

No, we don't want people simply to talk. Rather, we want people to pair up in teams, with lab action plans in future community events, to practice in real life and then review together afterwards. So you see yourself and others, practice and improve along the way.

Nice afternoon in downtown Mountain View, why not come take a look and try? Come in time before we head out for a walk.

TL;DR ----------

Do you want to practice people skills?
Do you want to try out being a host?

Walk through downtown Mountain View, intelligent discussion on the move, with after event action plans, with cohort.
