Welcome! We'll be playing casual variants of dodgeball and other recreational sports in the park.
******
Beginners always welcome. Remember to bring water, shoes/cleats you can run in.
******
The event is free, but a $2 donation is encouraged to help cover cost of equipment and meetup.com fees. For these purposes, a $2 donation to either @sam-fischgrund on Venmo or thegreatpeace@yahoo.com on PayPal is appreciated.
Please stay home if you recently experienced fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, or have recently been exposed to Covid-19.
You play at your own risk.
******The Comprehensive BADASS FAQ ******
****How safe is this? ****
We run things a bit differently from that dodgeball movie LOL. We throw No-Sting foam balls, foam frisbees, and soft pool noodles at each other. Headshots do not count as hits in matches. Also, please feel free to rest and watch the games on our beach blankets whenever you feel like it!
Watch out for personal space, as there is a risk of getting elbowed, bumped into, etc. in vigorous games.
Douchebaggery and bigotry of any kind (racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, casteism, etc.) is not welcome here. Be excellent to eachother.
****I'm at the park now. I don't see dodgeball? ****
Check the Meetup event post or Discord comments. Organizers do their best to arrive at the meetup at 7:15, but may post messages online if they are running late. Feel free to comment or DM if you have questions.
Check the meetup post for details (we alternate in the summer). Look out for dodgeball equipment at the park (bags of foam balls and pool noodles).
We typically play in between the Soccer Field and the Skateboard Park on the south side of Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale most days, due to the nighttime lighting there.
When daylight permits during the summer, we often play games in Eagle Park in Mountain View, on the grass adjacent to High School Way.
****What should I expect to happen at a dodgeball meetup? "****
After organizers arrive, we will socialize for a few minutes before starting warm up exercises. After completing warm ups/stretching and a brief introduction/ground rules, we start to play a series of dodgeball games.
We'll take short water breaks every ~15 minutes, and do announcements/group photo about halfway in. Dodgeballers may have dinner after the event nearby, assuming equipment has been put away.
If you have any concerns you would like addressed more confidentially, please DM Gabe, Kirby, Sam F, or Brianna about the situation and how we can help.
****Do I need cleats? ****
Cleats will help you slip less on the grass. They are not necessary, but they do help.
Note: If one does wear cleats, try not to step on anyone's toes (literally)!
****Will dodgeball events occur in rainy/inclimate weather? ****
Dodgeball will not be cancelled unless it there is moderate/heavy rain. Precipitation in the hours before dodgeball will not cancel an event.
