http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/1/1/7/event_40088471.jpegA couple of my favorite things to do when I travel is stay at haunted hotels and take in the local ghost walking tour. One of the nice things about attending the World Science Fiction Convention (aka Worldcon) is that it travels and gives me an excuse to go different places. This year Worldcon 69, aka Renovation (http://www.renovationsf.org/) , is being held in Reno, Nevada, and although the hotels in its room block don't include any with a reputation for being haunted, I did track down a tour operator who provides ghost walks of Reno. This was one of the harder ones to locate. Since ghost walks are something I enjoy doing with other people, I invite BAGH and other members of Renovation, to join me.
Join Author/Paranormal Researcher Janice Oberding (http://www.hauntednevada.com/) on this spirited and fun-filled two hour walk in historic downtown Reno. Along the way you’ll meet some of Reno’s most fascinating ghosts, discover the city’s rich history, hear about a mysterious disappearance that’s never been solved, and learn of techniques used in ghost detection.
The meet-up spot for the walk is the Washoe County Court House (not to be confused with the Washoe Federal Court House). It is within 2–3 miles of the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. I have never been to Reno before, so I searched the internet for the address of the Court House. 75 Court Street comes up, but Google identifies that as the Washoo County Law Library. It looks like the Court House is part of a complex and the actual street address may be 11 Court Street. Whatever number is actually on the building, Janice says it's on the corner of Court and Virginia Streets. The tour both starts and ends there. An URL will be provided for a map as soon as it is available.
This tour is being timed by Janice Oberding's availability and to avoid conflicts with Renovation's major functions, the masquerade and Hugo Awards ceremony. As luck would have it, Reno is also within a reasonable driving distance from BAGH's home, so local members might enjoy the trip. Renovation membership is not required to take the tour; however, for those who want to reserve spots, tickets must be paid for when RSVPing. Tix are $16 in advance, $20 "at the door," providing space is still available.
Keep in mind this is a walking tour, where we can see everything up close and personal. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress as you personally require for the local climate. Don't forget to bring your camera. You never know what may turn up in the pictures you take on a ghost walk.
