For February we will be reading Far From the Maddening Crowd by Thomas Hardy. According to amazon, this classic novel explores the emotional struggles of identity, pride, and loyalty through the life of a fiercely independent woman. It portrays complex romantic entanglements, personal growth, and the moral choices that shape destinies. This novel delves deep into social expectations and inner conflict. With richly drawn characters and lyrical prose, it continues to resonate with readers woh appreciate emotional depth, psychological realism and the enduring relevance of human connection.

Like Austen, Hardy explores the position of women within the constraints of society portraying their struggles for independence, love, and respectability. However, his approach is much darker and more tragic, revealing the harsh consequences of passion and social convention.
