Come Play Gaga (Dodgeball variation) - or just hangout @ Alameda Gaga Court
Details
Gaga is a fast-paced, low-impact version of dodgeball played in an enclosed pit. It's easy to learn, quick to play, and a great way to meet people. Never played or even heard of the game before? No problem! Most people pick it up in just a game or two, and we'll explain the rules when you arrive. No experience, athletic ability, or prior knowledge required! Just come ready to have fun!
The location of the court on Alameda island is here: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/VeqmD6oz6AbAksYB8 ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/VeqmD6oz6AbAksYB8)
The rules of Gaga are super simple and as follows:
- All players start with one hand touching a wall of the pit.
- The game begins with a referee throwing the ball into the center of the pit.
- Once the ball is in play, any player can hit the ball with an open or closed hand.
- If a ball touches a player below the knee (even if the player hits himself or herself) they are out and they leave the pit. If a player is hit above the knees, they are still in.
- Players cannot hold or throw the ball
We will go over the rules when we start so no need to memorize these!
Not sure if you want to play? Come anyway! Whether you want to jump into every game, give it a try and see how it goes, or hang out on the sidelines and socialize, you're absolutely welcome. There's no pressure to play, and you don't need to know anyone beforehand. The goal is to have fun and meet people!
If you have any other games like spike ball, cornhole, or soccer or volleyballs, please feel free to bring them as well! Depending on the number of attendees, we can set up additional activities on the side for people to play in between rounds of gaga
