Hello Bay Area UXPA members!

Hope you all are enjoying the summer. I am pleased to announce that we are starting up Bay Area UXPA after being on hiatus since last year. Registration is now open for our next meeting, which will be on August 9, and is being hosted by Oracle in Redwood Shores (thank you, Richard Miller!).

Please note: More meetings are currently in the planning stages, and will be announced as they are added to the calendar. Meetings are held at various locations around the Bay Area, hosted by our generous sponsors, who provide meeting venues and refreshments. If you work for a company that you think might be interested in hosting one of our meetings, please message me directly through our Meetup home page. Thanks!

August 9 Agenda:

6:00 - 6:45: Networking and refreshments

6:45 - 7:00: Chapter announcements

7:00-9:00: Presentation, discussion, more networking

Presentation: The Greek Gods of UX Research

IBM researchers Jake Volz and Toni Aguilar abstracted the Greek gods of Mount Olympus ("the Olympians") into pairs that both oppose and complement one another, such as love and war and the sea and the sky. Drawing upon their experiences as researchers, they have connected these themes to lessons they have learned in the field, such as what goes wrong when products are designed in silos and the best way to discover unusual user behaviors. They will also share a few Olympian fun facts along the way. Get ready for some abstract thinking.

About the Speakers:

Jake Volz is a UX researcher currently specializing in developer experience at IBM Cloud. Prior to entering the world of enterprise UX, he held positions at Google, Panasonic, and Stanford University. He earned an M.S. in Human Factors from San Jose State University. Twitter: @UX_Jake

Toni Aguilar got her start with enterprise software in 2016 when she joined IBM's UX research team. She currently leads research efforts for an IBM data science offering. Before that she studied Human Factors at San Jose State University and Philosophy at UC Santa Cruz.

Please note: Oracle Security requires that we provide a list of attendees in advance. If you don’t use your full name for your profile, please provide it during registration.

I look forward to seeing you!
