WiMLDS is starting a discussion group focused on inclusion and ethics in the tech and data science space, and this is our first meeting! For this group, we'll be reading or watching something before each meeting and then participating in discussion. The goal here is to just make ourselves more aware of issues like systemic racism and keep equity top of mind.
Each meeting's reading or viewing will take less than an hour. The discussions will be loosely moderated by the event host but please feel free to come with your own thoughts for interesting discussion points prepared.
------ WHAT WE'RE DISCUSSING THIS TIME ------
For the first meeting, we'll watch and discuss "Ethics and Race in Tech" a conversation between Ruha Benjamin and Meredith Whittaker (link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frqac_nEeQ4)
We'll take a few minutes at the start to do ice breakers and get acquainted before jumping into discussion. At the end of the meeting, we'll talk about what we want to read or discuss next!
