Salmon Run - Guadalupe River Kayak Expedition

Thanks for the relentless effort led by South Bay Clean Creeks Coalition, San Jose creeks see explosion in spawning salmon population.

While biking on the Guadalupe trail today, I saw with my own eyes at more than one spots that huge salmons fighting their way up Guadalupe river, 10+ miles upstream from Alviso Marina Park.

Let's go and check it out on our kayaks while they are in season! (The salmon will only be in the Guadalupe River Watershed for a short time. The spawning season starts around thanksgiving and ends in January)

THE PLAN:
Meet at the boat ramp at Alviso Marina Park at 9:30 am.
On the water 10 am. (Please arrive earlier if you need longer for boat setup and gear up)
We'll paddle upstream, go as far up as we can without resorting to portage our boats. Bring a helmet and garden shear to protect against the possible brush and tree branches (optional).

No, we are not going to catch any salmons, but do bring a net/garbage bag to pick up garbage from the creek if you feel like it.
Are we going to see salmon? I think likely since I saw it while biking along the trail 10 miles further upstream. However, I haven't paddled this stretch, and can't tell for sure.

I don't expect we paddle upstream more than 2-3 miiles and we definitely would be back to dock before 12:30 pm.
