Red Rock Beach Cold Springs Educational Gathering and Fill-up

Red Rock Beach has springs that flow from out the upper cliffs and down from out of sand at the beach. There is also a sulfur-litheum hot spring at a hidden part of the beach, only accessible during very low tides. The main spring at the parking lot for filling up has been consumed by locals and travelers for decades. It is currently the only road-side spring in Marin county known to be clean, and the closest spring for most in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

The FindASpring.com post on Red Rock is a bit outdated. Since that post, the erosion around the spring has been cleaned up and filling up regularly is a much easier experience.

Red Rock is not a "boxed" or "fountained" spring. Instead it has PVC pipes embedded into the cliff side springs which have since been subject to erosion, so the spring water flows around the pipes, and little flows out of them. The center most flowing spring currently has been setup for easy fill up with a custom installed pipe in the spring's fissure, held in place by rocks. Christian will show you how to use your own temporary pipe if that setup were to be eroded.

TDS (total dissolved solids/mineral content): 61-62 parts per million - a soft water

pH: 6.7-6.8 - a slightly acidic, and therefore most hydrating water

Temperature: about 50*F - Not super cold, but simply the temperature of the Earth's crust
