Kubernetes for Docker users
Details
When Docker was first released four years ago, Developer and DevOps teams everywhere fell in love with it. It was so simple, yet incredibly powerful. Docker sparked the creativity of millions of users and, as a result, the container ecosystem exploded. At the same time, Google released Kubernetes, a powerful platform that provides a framework to orchestrate containers. It includes a rich set of features that users and enterprises need to deploy containers in production, including advanced RBAC, multi-tenancy, and enhanced cluster resource management. But how do you bring together these two historically parallel approaches?
For September's BayLISA meetup, technical experts from Rancher Labs will discuss how you can benefit from the simple Docker user experience while taking advantage of all the power of Kubernetes. They will walk us through:
• Essential Kubernetes concepts.
• The key components of a Kubernetes deployment.
• Demo how to deploy and scale a containerized application with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and Rancher
• Authentication, including RBAC across multiple clusters

About the speakers:
• Alena Prokharchyk, software engineer, Rancher Labs.
Alena's been working on building infrastructure services first for Virtual Machines, now for Docker containers. Outside work she enjoys rollerblading, reading books on totally random subjects and solving math puzzles.
• William Jimenez, systems engineer, Rancher Labs.
William enjoys solving problems with computers, software and just about any complex system he can get his hands on. He enjoys helping others make sense of difficult problems. In his free-time he likes to tinker with amateur radio, cycle on the open road, and spend time with his family (so they don't think he forgot about them).

Our meetings are scheduled for 7:30pm on the third Thursday of each month.
BayLISA includes system and network administrators across a range of skill levels. BayLISA meets to discuss topics of interest to system administrators and managers. The meetings are free and open to the public.
If you'd like to pay it forward and contribute to BayLISA via a membership, please contact one of our board members at a meeting or simply visit http://foo.baylisa.org/members/join.shtml online.
We always welcome presentation topics and volunteer speakers.
