Over the past decade, the TrueNAS (Formerly FreeNAS) project has greatly changed the face of Open Source storage, by working to democratize access to the enterprise-grade solutions both at home and the datacenter. Over the past several years, TrueNAS has evolved as a product, gaining new features, performance, going through a name change to TrueNAS CORE/Enterprise. This has lead to TrueNAS becoming not only the worlds most popular open-source storage, but the most deployed software defined storage as well.

In this talk, Kris Moore of iXsystems will be giving an overview of the latest entry into the TrueNAS family of products, TrueNAS SCALE. TrueNAS SCALE takes the existing rock-solid storage software and marries it with a new class of features enabled by its new Debian Linux base. He will discuss some of its new feature set, which includes scale-out capabilities, as well as vast improvements in support for VM's and Linux container technologies (K8's). Bigger picture we will take a quick look at the SCALE roadmap and what planned features are on the horizon as this new product development ramps up in 2022 and beyond.
