Let's Meetup to Discuss Kickstarter for Writers & to Share Work!

Details

Hey BWC-

I hope you're finding an air-conditioned spot to get your writing done, because this heat is relentless. If you couldn't make it to our last meetup, we missed you. We don't usually have regular meetings in July because it is typically a busy travel month for most members. However, we are trying to make up for some lost time (read that as missed meetings), and I must admit it has been really great spending more time with our writing tribe.
This week we have charter member Paul Heingarten sharing his experience with Kickstarter. If you have always wondered how Kickstarter fits into your writing life, are curious about how it works, or are simply hearing about it for the first time, he can answer your questions or point you in the right direction for answers.

Here's a little more about Paul:
Paul Heingarten writes science fiction and fantasy, with the occasional detour into general fiction. His novel, "Cataclysm Epoch," was selected as a semifinalist in the 2017 William Faulkner - William Wisdom Writing Competition, held in New Orleans, Louisiana. A musician for most of his life, and an IT professional because it pays the bills, he lives in South Louisiana with his wife, Andrea. In addition to sharing his passion for writing with his wife and the local Bayou Writers Club, he’s also a diehard Saints fan.

In addition to the presentation, we'll have time for Reading like a Writer if anyone would like to bring something in to share.

READING LIKE A WRITER: We have time for 2-3 volunteers, five minutes each, to share something they have read by an author that represents a great writing technique. It can be an author who writes excellent dialogue, has a unique writing voice, uses thought-provoking imagery, is gifted with world-building, etc. This segment is much loved by our group and is based on the techniques/information learned through the book Reading Like a Writer by Francine Prose. Please message Dennis Lavoie or me if you have any questions about this.

READING YOUR WORK: As usual, we will wrap up our meeting by sharing some of our work. If you haven't shared anything in a while or are new to the group, please consider bringing something in to read. Many of us are working on projects or have been busy. However, as writers, we must continue to write something new, even if it's to exercise our writing muscle. As always, these short pieces of work (1,000 words or less- give or take a few) can be from a writing prompt, a couple of pages from your current project, poetry, journal, etc...if you write it, we want to hear it! PLEASE PRACTICE YOUR READING BEFORE THE MEETING TO MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET IT DONE IN THREE OR FOUR MINUTES!!!

Save the date for our August Meetings: August 14th & 28th.

We also have two upcoming workshops. On Saturday, August 2nd, we will be hosting our Planner/Organization Workshop. This is a mid-year version of our normal January event. The cost is $25, payable in advance. Details, including sign-up information, will be posted soon.
On Saturday, August 30th, we will have a writing workshop based on the book "Save The Cat! Writes A Novel" by Jessica Brody. The cost will be $40, paid in advance. Details, including sign-up, will be posted soon.

Until then, Happy Writing.
