Let's Meet up for a 2026 Kick-Off Meeting with Writing Contracts

Happy 2026 Bayou Writers!

I love January because so many new and not-so-new writers recommit to their art! It’s an exciting time to join a meeting and begin your writing year with support. Our 2026 kick-off meeting is going to be exceptional!

We will begin with our annual tradition of handing out WRITING CONTRACTS. A writing contract is a form that you will fill out for yourself and hand-in to me (just for accountability) and then possibly share with your writing partner(s) and/or the group. Think "Personal Writing Business Plan," and start putting together some notes.

Next, we will discuss writing/accountability partners, and you can choose one (or more) at the meeting, or I can help you find one! This is one of the single best things you can do to keep on track with your writing goals. It's a great time to consider what you need in a writing partner. Perhaps someone that can meet during the day, just in the evenings, or someone that will follow up with you online? What about someone that is serious about publishing or maybe a writer that is interested in simply writing as a hobby? Write down your needs so this can be a productive exercise for your writing goals this year!

As many of you know, the BWC is always growing, and our new members have different needs than some of our charter members. This 2026 kick-off meeting is the perfect time to make suggestions and requests. So think about what you want or need from the group and how it can better serve your writing goals. I am always open to suggestions and speakers for the group. I have a busy writing year planned and this helps me, help you, and well, me, haha.

We'll still have enough time for a few writers to share short pieces of work (1,000 words or less- give or take a few), and this can be from a writing prompt, a couple of pages from your current project, poetry, journal, etc...if you write it, we want to hear it! Please adhere to the word count and practice reading so there is time for everyone- Thanks!!!
