This year 31st August marks the 106th birth anniversary of arguably one of the most relentless writer, and well, one of the strongest and outspoken, fiercely independent woman the last century had seen in the Indian subcontinent!
Amrita Pritam was the first prominent women poet, novelist, essayist and short story writer of Punjabi language. With a career spanning over six decades, she penned over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography that have been translated into several Indian and foreign languages. And well, apart from winning Sahitya Akademi, Bhartiya Jnanpith, Padma Shri, Padma Vibhushan and Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, she won over the hearts across the borders!
