5 PM Dinner available, then we all leave for the 7 PM lesson - and beginners get their 2nd-dance-free pass for being at the lesson at 7 PM.

Dinner at Sweet Tomatoes! (1 block East of Camelback & Central). We sit in the back room, right side.

There is a dinner before every dance, but it is planned to be posted on meetup once every 2 months.

WHO: You can come by yourself and make new friends - or bring a friend or your friends - many people come each way. Everyone is welcome!

WHAT: Dinner to meet people. A dance is especially great if you have met people before dancing with them. At the dinner, you can ask about what a contra is like. In general, people talk about whatever they like.

WHERE: Places include Pita Jungle, Pei Wei, Zoe's Kitchen, and Sweet Tomatoes! Our restaurants usually accommodate a wide variety of diets.

WHEN: 5 PM.

• We ask everyone to go to the dance at 7 PM, including experienced people, to help with the newcomers.

WHY: The reason dinners start so early is to allow time for people to volunteer if they wish. We are a non-profit group, and we set up the dance hall, the sound speakers, and a large snack table.

NOTE: For dinners at Sweet Tomatoes, we often set up a dinner discount. Just say you are with the "Dance Group".

• One great thing about Sweet Tomatoes is there are 100 foods to choose from, and you only have to like 1 - out of a 100 - for it to be good!

Our dances are "2nd Saturdays" and "4th Fridays". "4th Fridays" have dinners too, but they are not listed as a separate event on Meetup because they are still at 5 PM, which is harder for people to make. Meetup organizers won't necessarily attend Friday 5 PM dinners (but typically there will be an organizer or two at Saturday 5 PM dinners).

On the Contra Dance: Phoenix Contra Dances have almost always 40-80 people, not just Meetup dancers. Almost always equal men & women, within 5 or 10 people. No experience needed! No partner needed!
