Background

The BBC has been broadcasting from Newcastle for over 100 years. Now it's also the base of our North East Technology Hub and home to teams from the BBC's Product Group, responsible for developing world-beating services like iPlayer, Sounds, Sport and Bitesize.

The event is informal, and the doors will open at 17:30, starting 18:00 running through to 20:00.

Computer vision in Antarctica (Cameron Trotter - British Antarctic Survey)

Psychological safety: The link between speaking up (Jitesh Gosai (Jit) - BBC)
Psychological safety is vital for high-performing engineering teams, but what it is and how it affects them is often misunderstood. In this talk, I'll share my journey in understanding this foundational aspect of teams and how we have attempted to apply the latest research to increase it.

Context is King (Dexter Gribble - Confluent)
Immediacy has become the norm in the way consumers expect to engage with companies and brands. From personalised recommendations to live chat bots, we look at ways we can use this data to actively engage audiences while we have their attention.
