Tourism Boards. You know there out there but what do they do? Every country, state, province, region, and city has a tourism office, and yet when was the last time you asked one for help in writing a travel story?

Most writers do their own research about traveling, but the really smart ones connect with the local tourism office for advice and assistance.

Our next Meetup, Tourism Boards at Your Service, will be a panel discussion with Mika Ryan of Destination BC and Amber Sessions of Tourism Vancouver.

In this Meetup, you’ll learn all the helpful ways a tourism bureau can make your travel writing job that much easier.

Among the topics:

What tourism boards expect from writers and bloggers
How to ask for discounts or comps
What kind of blog traffic impresses them
Ways to get insider entrees
What are the do's and don'ts of working with a tourism board

We know you'll have questions for the speakers, so please place them in the comments below to get them answered first.

Communications Manager Amber Sessions helps travel writers and influencers find new and exciting stories about her city, and she finds time to enjoy sailing, running, skiing and eating her way around Vancouver’s culinary neighbor-hoods. Amber holds a BA from McGill University. Prior to joining Tourism Vancouver she guided American high school students around France, crewed on a yacht off the coast of Italy and worked in the communications office of a Paris museum. Amber's advice to any travel writer: “Don’t miss cycling the Stanley Park seawall –it’s stunningly beautiful, rain or shine, and one of Vancouver’s must-do experiences.”

BC Travel Writer Meetups are now held in the bright, shiny conference room of Big Rock Urban Brewery at 4th Avenue and Alberta Street in Vancouver where there's a full bar and kitchen service to sate your dinnertime needs. Stay afterward for more drinks and musical entertainment!

Due to the convergence of 4th Avenue with Yukon and 2nd Ave, finding Big Rock has been confusing. Please follow the Map (https://www.google.com/maps/place/310+W+4th+Ave,+Vancouver,+BC+V5Y+1H3,+Canada/@49.2675047,-123.113018,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x548673dee6625bd5:0xe4ce1442297a0d0b).

Please RSVP now for this Meetup, but as usual, please respect the RSVP process by canceling promptly if you are unable to attend.

See you at the Meetup!
