What we're about

This is the events site of the Boston Camera Club (BCC), the leading camera club in the Boston area, established in 1881. You can read more about the BCC on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Camera_Club) or visit the club's website at https://www.bostoncameraclub.org

This meetup is primarily for members of the BCC to schedule, organize, manage and participate in the club's field trips and other events. Interested people who would like to participate in the field trips can join the meetup by either paying a field-trip-only fee of $20 per year or by paying the full one year club membership. If you want to join the club as a full member, please sign up on the club's website (https://www.bostoncameraclub.org/member_register.aspx) or you can upgrade after joining this Meetup for $50. Once you're on the full member list, you will be marked "exempt" here. Do not pay both the $20 and the $70. If you are a student, you may want to join the BCC as a full student member on the above website, instead of here.

BCC field trips are to gather in groups and explore intriguing, unusual, new and old places of interest, take photos and post some after the event on this site for sharing or constructive critique. Most events will be for all levels of experience and our members will be willing to assist and share their knowledge. If an event is targeted to a specific topic, we may point out the difficulty level and we will always suggest what equipment to bring. As a club member, you can also participate in our annual field trips-only image competition.

Before you start browsing around, please take a look at the MORE-POLLS in the menu and let us know your preferences and then please review the DISCUSSIONS, also in the menu, for pointers on safety, attendance and membership rules.

We are looking forward to doing group shoots with you!

Jürgen, BCC field trip organizer

Field trip: Sunset/Moonrise Scituate Lighthouse

Museum Beach

With the sun setting at 6:39 pm and the harvest moon rising at 6:45 pm, it is perfect for capturing either the sunset or moonrise at this iconic lighthouse. It will also be low tide at 5:57 pm which provides ample room for moving along the beach at the light or Museum Beach on the other side of the harbor. This is also a great location to fly your drone if you have one. I would suggest a wide angle if you are shooting up around the light and your longest telephoto for the moon shot. A tripod of course for the moon shot. Weather updates will be provided the day before and hoping for a clear sky.

Due to the pandemic, these in-person events are not possible. Later in the year, we will resume print competitions through mail-in submissions. Until then, we honor our benefactor Horace Latimer with our Latimer Education Presentations. Tonight, Steve Koppel will present on Printing Your Own Images - Making it Gratifying and Accessible. Printing your own imagery can seem daunting, yet for Steve it is one of the most rewarding aspects of the photographic experience. During his talk, he will share my own journey, beginning with creating imagery that solely lived on my hard drive and on social media, evolving to the printing of personal folios, publishing fine art photography books, and printing my own imagery for showing in an upscale gallery. Steve will focus on making the printing process accessible, encouraging photographers to begin printing without feeling the need to fully understand what can feel like an overwhelming amount to learn. Steve's approach for printing is designed to simplify the process while still generating results that are rewarding and of high quality - and this is what he will be sharing. Steve’s own imagery seeks to convey the deep connection he has with Cape Cod, a place he and his family have cherished for over 30 years. A Brewster resident, Steve’s book, the extraordinary visual spectacles that occur in this ever-changing landscape. Steve has just released a new book, The Cape Cod National Seashore. Steve also leads photography retreats on Cape Cod. https://stevenkoppel.com/
