Details

Hello folks,

I'm super excited to announce that our next Kubernetes meetup is taking place on September 5th and we have a special guest, Kelsey Hightower (https://www.crunchbase.com/person/kelsey-hightower#/entity) from Google coming up to Vancouver and joining us!

The meetup will feature two presentations:

  1. On the persistence of memory, by Gordon Klok (https://www.linkedin.com/in/gordon-klok-1870594/?ppe=1) from Pax Automa (https://www.paxautoma.com/#intro)

Outlining the case for using Kubernetes to manage your storage tier, the mechanisms available in Kubernetes to do so, and some of the tradeoffs and limitations of each approach.

Speaker Bio: Gordon Klok is the CEO and co-founder of Pax Automa Systems Incorporated. Pax Automa develops Operos control software greatly simplifies the challenge of building large scale distributed systems. Prior to Pax Automa, Gordon worked for the Demonware subsidiary of Activision/Blizzard/King leading a team that built software to automate and improve the efficiency of the Operations department. Gordon has also been a Hacker on the OpenBSD project working on Kernel power efficiency, and in the high performance computing space designing and managing large computational clusters for life sciences research.

  1. Kubernetes and Envoy by Kelsey Hightower (https://twitter.com/kelseyhightower) from Google

Kubernetes makes it easy to manage containers across multiple machines; Envoy makes it easy to connect and monitor them.

In this talk we will take a look at leveraging Envoy for Kubernetes and how to integrate Envoy with Kubernetes service discovery, initializers, and configuration facilities.

Speaker Bio: Well, if you've heard of Kubernetes but not this name, then do youself a favor and Search Google (https://www.google.ca/search?q=Kelsey+Hightower).
