What we’re about
"READING the CLASSICS (and more) in New Orleans: books/films that connect us"
***************
Meet kindred book lovers in a local Meetup Book Club! We'll choose a work of classic or great contemporary fiction each month and share the joys of good literature and good company.
A FEW RULES that we have grown over our 15 years of existence: You must be a Member in order to attend. You must RSVP before arriving. Change your RSVP to NO if you end up not coming. No drop-ins, no bringing a guest. You must have read the material in order to participate. Know that we occasionally slip the attendees into 2 groups.
As it is considered a distraction, members are not to post Comments. We are strictly an in-person group.
ALSO your group Profile should be uncomplicated and kind toward the Organizer and fellow Members. Use your first name and a bit more to distinguish you from possible namesakes. Upload a simple picture of your face, unless you are concerned about your online privacy. Not pets, etc.
* * * *
We typically meet on a Saturday once a month at noon to discuss our MAIN SELECTION -- classic or superior contemporary NOVEL (so rarely anything published within the last 10 years). We try to keep the reading to 300 pages or less, but there are many exceptions.
Depending on the interest and availability of regular Members, we also meet at various locations around town -- public and private -- for the following types of discussions:
SHORT STORIES
NOVELLAS
PLAYS
SPECULATIVE & SCIENCE FICTION
POETRY
"THE SUN" MAGAZINE
MOVIES AND DOCUMENTARIES/INTERVIEWS
CHILDREN'S LITERATURE
NON-FICTION
MAGAZINE/JOURNAL ARTICLES
