We will start with a short AGM, papers forwarded to members. Only members can actively partake or vote in the AGM, however non members can observe until the main talk starts.
Background
Cyber Extortion via Ransomware is big now. We used to worry about encryption of drives which could possibly be decrypted for a payment of around $300 in Bitcoin. Remember Wannacry. Not any more. Criminals have worked out that 10% of global turnover is a great target for an extortion attack. Remember the recent and ongoing attack against Graf Diamonds, a $450 million business, suspected to have been instigated by the Russian Conti Gang. Client details were being leaked onto the dark web until payment was made. This was on 1st November, now gone quiet.
We are very fortunate to be joined by two eminent Cyber Security Practitioners who will lead us through this very threatening risk. In addition how does working with ICO work? Most importantly, how can we prevent this happening in the first place..
BIO: Dr.Nigel Houlden, Data Privacy expert and champion, ex Head of Technology Policy ICO.
Nigel has spent his career in both public and private sector organisations. His passion is technology , focusing on the use of it and how it can give advantage to industry and society. Having over 30 years’ experience in various sectors, NHS, local government, and private organisations. Nigel was the Head of Technology Policy for the ICO as the GDPR and NIS were introduced to the UK.
BIO: Dr Les Pritchard, Director of Neterix, specialist Cyber Security Constancy.
Dr Les Pritchard, Cyber Security Specialist, Neterix, holds a PhD in distributed networks and security. He is a Chartered IT Professional and Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 27001. Les works with a wide range of organisations including PLCs, national charities, academia and law enforcement. His projects have included large scale network installation, virtualisation, monitoring, cloud migrations and security. Les has also assisted the North Wales Police’s Hi-Tech Crime Unit on a number of cases.
He is passionate about finding the right solution for the problem whether that is commercial, open source or bespoke. Having also worked as a lecturer and a commercial trainer, Les also has extensive experience of delivering technical courses.
The world of IT is full of terminology that many non-technical people are unfamiliar with, so Les firmly believes that being able to clearly communicate is essential to ensure everyone is well informed and can follow best practices.
All wrapped up with a fulsome Q&A. Expect lots of energy and lots of Cyber Security wisdom, from the speakers and fellows professionals amongst the attendees. This is what we like to do in Shropshire, open the floor up, and let everybody learn from each other.
