What we’re about
We’re the Hopkins, MN Lions Club, founded in 1938, the oldest club in Hennepin County -- and part of Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world. Our club serves the community (and not just Hopkins) and shows our support in many ways:
* Collecting food donations for the local food bank.
* Collecting eyeglasses and hearing aid donations.
* Giving free eye exams to kids.
* Cleaning up trash along Highway 169.
* Packing meals for those in need at the Twin Cities 9/11 Day of Service in St. Paul.
* Handing out candy to kids at Halloween in Hopkins.
* Helping at the Spooky Service Carnival for kids at the Ridgedale Library in Minnetonka.
* Donating comfort kits to and making cards for people who are elderly, have suffered from domestic violence, and who live with a mental illness.
* Collecting plastic bags and turning them into plastic benches installed throughout the community.
* Being Salvation Army bellringers.
* Walking in the De-Feet Hearing Loss Walk at the MN Landscape Arboretum.
* Donating money we raise to Leader Dogs for the Blind, Special Olympics, the Team Sheehan Charitable Foundation, and to causes including childhood cancer, diabetes, hearing, vision, and flood relief.
We’re hoping to expand our reach by attracting new members who want to make a difference and make new friends along the way. You don’t need to live in Hopkins to join. Our general meetings are usually the first Wednesday of every month at 6 PM at the Hopkins American Legion (unless we have a special event, such as a holiday party, or a social gathering at a local business).
I’ll be posting our events and meetings on this page. You’re welcome to come meet us (and help out if you'd like) at a community event, or attend a general meeting as a guest. There is no obligation to join.
