The Challenge

Cornish Lithium is an exciting and rapidly growing science-driven business that is using data and cutting edge technology to identify lithium deposits in Cornwall.

Huge amounts of untapped data exist in written or diagrammatical form dating from Cornwall’s long and illustrious mining heritage. The Challenge: automate the extraction of key words and features from historical mining journals and maps with a focus on helping to locate future mineral deposits in Cornwall.

Join the session to hear Cornish Lithium explain the opportunities and challenges surrounding mining lithium in Cornwall, a more detailed introduction to the data challenge covering the importance of historical information and how it is currently being used to model the subsurface to target lithium enriched geothermal waters. The paper in question is the journal in which it was first documented that lithium was found to be issuing out of permeable structures. Also a broader scientific understanding of Cornish geology to inform the development of data processing for identifying potentially rich and useful deposits will be given.

There will be time for questions and discussion after the presentation of the challenge.

After this session you can work in a group, or individually, and present your findings at a follow up event.
