Oakland Park Reef Beach Dive and Survey

Details
The reef off Oakland Park must be seen to be believed. First, there is a garden-like patch reef that stretches for acres just beyond the sandbar. A few hundred yards out, you find the west wall of the first reef system and the change could not be more dramatic. Scores of large brain corals populate the rise up toward plated shelves and ledges. Marine life teems among the mounds with colorful reef species flitting between and larger schools hovering above.
On this dive, we will survey the first reef mound, examining hard corals for baseline bleaching data. If time permits, we may explore the 19th century shipwreck that has been tempting us for years.
This dive is suitable for open water divers with experience on long surface swims. Maximum depths are less than 25' and bottom time may be 60-75 minutes.
We'll meet at the parking lot, gear up, and walk over to the beach entrance. MasterMeters take cash and credit but parking may be limited so plan on an early arrival to get a space.
