NOTE: Our former El Rio Meetup location has changed due to new construction in the Tri Ral parking lot. Our new start location will be the Spanish River Library parking lot.

This is a fun skate along the El Rio creek. Imagine skating under I-95 or Yamato Road and for good measure under the Tri Rail tracks. You will get the feeling of being in a mini Jurassic Park because you will see Iguanas running along the path or setting in the sun near the water,

9:00 am : Meet at the West side of the Spanish River Library parking lot near the Nature trail bridge . Look for my gray Tesla or Jim's black jeep

9:15 am - 11:30 am : SKATE !
We will cruise the very smooth path along the El Rio Trail and for the more experienced skaters, we can add additional distance in the adjacent Spanish River Athletic Field/DeHoernle Park. With this skate there is something for everyone.

We strongly recommend that you wear safety gear (bike helmet and wrist guards at a minimum).
Intermediate or advanced skaters are welcome to join us and do extra miles.

Remember to bring water and sun-block, and drink plenty of water before hand to stay hydrated!

NOTE: We welcome skaters, cyclists or if you prefer to just walk or run that's ok to. This event is suitable for all skate abilities for beginner to speed skaters. We also offer skating tips and suggestions to new skaters to get them started. Cyclists and Walker/Runners can choose a 1, 2 or three mile loop around the athletic fields and lakes.

The closed area of the park is safe for night skating. This is a 3 mile loop inside the park complex on bike and walking paths with some room for with little auto traffic or hills.

Because it's a closed loop you can skate at your own pace and not be more than a mile from the starting point.

We'll meet at 6:30 PM and skate at 6:45 PM.

Directions:Take I-95 to exit 48 A westbound on Spanish River Blvd. continue on over I-95 (it's the 2nd stop light after the bridge) TURN LEFT into the park and TURN LEFT at the next 2 stop signs. Go about 300 ft and park. Text 561-654-5991 if you need a map or help finding us

This is a skate suitable for all skaters. Because it is a loop you can skate walk or bike at your own pace. Please be sure to bring water.

Parking in the north parking lot section of the park. The parking fee at Birch Park is $4.00 for the day and exact change or credit card is required. Please note that the lot fills up fast during tourist season. There is alternative parking that is close by to the skate (maybe ¾ mile). If you park elsewhere, please allow additional time to get to our meeting point.

After the skate we'll meet and our starting point to decide on a lunch location, also you can kayak, canoe or just enjoy a nice Ft. Lauderdale beach day.
