Hollywood Beach Dive and Underwater Cleanup

Details

Hollywood residents meet every second Saturday to clean their beach and we are going to help them by removing debris from the water offshore. At the same time, we will visit the famous Yellow Brick Road, which is a lively habitat unrivaled for many miles in either direction.

Most of us park in the garage at Connecticut St and Ocean Drive or we meet in the pavilion in Charnow Park. After registering as participants in the city sponsored cleanup, we will wade out as buddy teams, drop down on a near shore reef, and explore our way south to the Yellow Brick Road.

The Road is famous for its diversity. Home to many reef species, it receives visits from pelagic fish and many local denizens, such as tarpon and dolphin, cruise through to snack on bait fish. A steep boulder pile is a lively hangout, as is the road itself that extends eastward to depths of 26'. Photographers will have plenty of subjects to capture and those keeping track of fish will have many species to check off their list.

Bottom time is usually 45-60 min at depths between 15-26'. This is a good dive to build one's experience, especially when conditions are mild. Divers must be open-water certified and be familiar with beach diving techniques. Every diver will have a buddy and we have plenty of singles to buddy up every event.
