Cherry Blossom Walk through Southwest Corridor Park
Details
Enjoy peak cherry blossom blooms while strolling through Southwest Corridor Park.
This route takes you through the historic South End. We'll walk the most scenic part of the corridor and turn back at Mass Ave:
- Start at 40 Charles St: Head south on Charles Street toward the Boston Common.
- Public Garden & Common: Cross Beacon Street to enter the Boston Public Garden or stay on the sidewalk along the edge of the Common.
- To Boylston Street: Walk through or around the park to reach Boylston Street.
- Charles Street South: Continue onto Charles Street South, heading toward the Theater District/Park Plaza area.
- Onto Columbus Avenue: Turn right onto Columbus Avenue. This street serves as the primary corridor leading toward the park's entrance.
- Enter Southwest Corridor Park: The northern section of the park begins near the Back Bay T Station (Dartmouth St).
- The South End Stretch: Walk south along the park’s paved pedestrian path, which runs parallel to Columbus Avenue through the South End.
- Destination (Mass Ave): Continue until you reach the intersection of the park and Massachusetts Avenue, near the Mass Ave Orange Line station
This week's theme song:
(To the tune of "Dirty Water" by The Standells)
(Intro: The Orange Line screeching in the distance over the riff)
I’m gonna tell you a story
About a path I know
Where the Orange Line is humming
While the blossoms start to grow
Yeah, I’m walkin’ down from Back Bay
Toward the South End side
Watching all the bike commuters
On a floral-petal ride
Chorus:
Well, I love that pink pollen
Oh, Southwest Corridor, you’re my ho-o-ome
(You’re the one and only)
Oh, we love those cherry blossoms
Oh, Boston, you’re my home
The dog park is a-barking
Down by Titus Sparrow Park
The petals coat the benches
From the morning 'til the dark
And the kids are on the playground
Near the Mass Ave station gate
While the sneakers hit the pavement
At a very steady rate
