This is a full day event, with 2-parts that you don't want to miss!

Things to bring:

  • For the cave walk/hike - bring your winter clothes, beanie, snow/warm jacket, hiking boots, yak traks and/or microspikes, gloves, leggings, etc. as it will be about 30-ish degrees. You must bring two light sources/head lamps.
  • For the hike - bring hiking pants/shorts, sunscreen, sun-shirt, hat, etc.
  • Bring your own snacks, water, and lunch! We will be eating lunch in-between these two events as we drive to the next event.

Please note, if you wish to carpool post in the comments and/or organize on your own! Please time yourself/plan to meet at the trailhead at 9:00am.

Itinerary:
Everyone needs to meet at the the Falls Creek Falls Trailhead (NF-3062, Carson, WA 98610). We will wait till 9:15am or so, then hit the trail!

  • Hike: This is about a 2 hr. hike, it’s easy-moderate, 3.4-mile, out-and-back hike along beautiful Falls Creek leads to one of southern Washington’s highest waterfalls, 200-foot (total) Falls Creek Falls. The hike gains ~800 feet in elevation.
  • Parking: Recreation Passes you need to get ahead of time are Digital Day Pass (Day Use: $5 per vehicle per day) or Northwest Forest Pass.
  • **Important: To get to Falls Creek Falls trailhead and To Guler Ice Caves you will not have cell reception for a large portion of the drive, so be sure to have google maps/Waze route preprogrammed or even print out a copy of your route ahead of time to be sure.

We will then travel 1hr 30min, to Guler Ice Cave (Guler Ice Caves, Trout Lake, WA 98650)- Ever wanted to walk/hike a cave that is iced all year round? This is your chance! As the name implies, we will be going down into a lava tube/cave that is iced over, think huge ice columns from floor ceiling. We will be walking very slowly and taking our time (1.5hrs).

We should get done with the cave around 3:15pm, and then drive 40min. to Everybody's Brewery in White Salmon (177 East Jewett Blvd, White Salmon WA, 98672) for food and drinks. We will head back to PDX afterwards.
