No cause an island?
Details
Change of programme! A fascinating new piece of research was released just before Christmas that could have big implications for the way we talk about sustainability - and a lot else. We should talk about it!
No Cause Is An Island (http://valuesandframes.org/no-cause-is-an-island/) is the latest research from Common Cause. Over the last few years, that organisation's made a powerful case for grounding our appeals for change in 'intrinsic values' - rather than appealing to people’s fear, greed or ego.
Now, using material from disability charity Scope and environmental charity WWF, the new findings suggest that this values-based approach could help build a stronger movement for change, even across apparently disconnected causes.
It's an idea that challenges the logic of 'social marketing', used by many of us working in sustainability communications.
So we're going to use this time together to understand the ideas of Common Cause and No Cause Is An Island.
And we'll be joined via Skype by Common Cause author Tom Crompton of WWF-UK who will take the group's questions and help us work out what this all means for us in the work that we're doing right now.
We'll be holding this one at the Neo studio, at the London Road end of Ditchling Rise - instructions on how to find us will be mailed to those who sign up.
Places are free but very limited - please only sign up if you can definitely make it!
