What we’re about
This group is for people who are passionate about photography, and know they can improve how they express themselves through the images they make. We support each other in our journeys to becoming better photographers.
There are two parts to each Meetup. Firstly on a Saturday or Sunday we meet at a location in the Front Range or Denver metro area to capture images for about two hours. Generally the locations are outdoors, walking/hiking is required, sometimes it will be an early or late start to take advantage of the golden hour. The subjects are wide ranging, e.g., architectural, birds and animals, landscapes, and street. The object is to keep challenging each other to really see the world around us.
For the second part we meet in-person to review our images; there is no scoring or judging, just opportunity to provide constructive feedback to improve our images. The focus is our creativity, not technical minutia although feedback of how to improve technically to capture better images is welcomed. During the daylight saving months, the review meetings will be held at 6:30 pm on the Tuesday or Wednesday after the photoshoot. In the winter months, it will be held on the Sunday afterwards at 3:00 pm. The reviews are held in north Golden (in a commercial office facility near the intersection of Hwy 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Rd).
The group is facilitated by me, Robert Cooke. I am an enthusiastic photographer learning to find my path to conveying the world I see in my images. I aim to host one Meetup per month.
Participants of all skill and experience levels are welcome but should be familiar with the operation of their photographic equipment and post processing tools.
There is no fee to join the group. Please only RSVP “yes” if you can join both parts of the meetup. You are welcome to contact me if you have any questions ([robertcooke@icloud.com](mailto:robertcooke@icloud.com)).

The first part is capturing photographs in the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge has an 11-mile Wildlife Drive and over 20 miles of hiking trails providing many opportunities to photograph the natural environment, including bison, deer, coyotes, prairie dogs, and a variety of raptors and waterfowl. On Sunday October 19, we will meet at 4:00 pm outside the entrance to the Visitors Center (6550 Gateway Road, Commerce City, CO 80022 ). We will separate, or form smaller groups, and set out to find interesting images in our vehicles along the Wildlife Drive, or by hiking along the many trails. At 6:00 pm we will re-group at the Visitors Center and end the outing with a tailgate beer or drink. With the current shutdown, the park is open but the Visitors Center is closed.
For the second part we will meet at 5:30 pm on the following Thursday (October 23) in north Golden (in a commercial office facility near the intersection of Hwy 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Rd). The focus is our creativity, not technical minutia although feedback of how to improve technically to capture better images is welcomed. I will provide the building address on Sunday during the photo outing.
