THURSDAY - Walking in Walkern - 9.5 Miles Circular Walk
Details
Sally has very kindly offered to lead this months walk around the Walkern area , it's slightly outside of our normal Thursday radios so you may not be particularly familiar with the area.
From personal experience I can thoroughly recommend walks is this area , with rolling hills and spectacular countryside . It is absolutely worth that extra bit of driving. In fact I can offer a couple of people a lift from the Northill area ,if that encourages you to attend ( it's around 35 minutes drive from there)
The route will take us through the hamlet of Halls Green and along tbe old Roman Road bridleway towards Weston. We stop off at Jack O legs grave where apparently there is a story to be told . We then head back across fields to Walkern
We will be walking at around 3 MPH so a reasonable level of fitness will be required.
What can you expect from this route ?
- A few gentle hills and some great views across Hertfordshire
- We will be walking across grasslands, farm tracks , footpaths and through some woodlands
- If I dare mention the 'C' word , Walkern is well known for 'The Magic Of Christmas' which is a massive Christmas Shop on a nearby farm
- The White Lion Pub , 31 High Street Walkern SG2 7PA provides an option for post walk refreshments
- If you are a first timer please read the 'About us...' section on the homepage before signing up for this walk, ensuring appropriate fitness and suitability.
