If you attended this walk in December 2022 , you'll understand the name of the walk, if you didn't do come along to see if history repeats itself !

We will be walking at around 3 MPH so a reasonable level of fitness will be required.

The route takes us around Broom Quarry, some of which is now lakeland ( not the cook shop) and then skirts around the Shuttleworth Estate where some of the film Biggles was shot in 1986.

We arrive at Ickwell Green where a house on the corner of The Green was the birthplace of Thomas Tompion , England's most famous clockmaker . You will also see not one but two Maypoles. The old one was recently replaced but rather than have it go to waste a mate of mine had erected it in his back garden.

There will be a 15 minute stop for lunch on Ickwell Green where a toilet is located by the side of the cricket club -please note it is not always unlocked

After the break we head towards Old Warden via the recently opened permissive path and then undertake a short climb up into Old Warden Wood . A short road walk then ,leads us to more tracks that take us back to Broom

What can you expect from this route ?

  1. A fairly flat walk across along grasslands, farm tracks, footpaths and through a stunning wood
  2. We walk through Broom Quarry much of which is now lakeland around the edge of the Shuttleworth Estate so you might see a few vintage planes .
  3. There is one climb for about 3 minutes and 15 minutes of road walking to link the route together
