Final Cheers to Pike Brewing!
Details
Nine (9) years ago on September 13th, about 50 women from all over Seattle attended a meetup at Pike Brewing Company to officially launch the Beer Necessities group founded by Sarah Louise Eshelman. Owners Rose Ann and Charles Finkel hosted the event and welcomed the women with open arms and lots of beer. Since then, more than 1500 women have joined on Meetup, consuming many kegs of beer, and establishing longtime friendships over the years. It was a sad day when Rose Ann passed away in June 2020. For some, it was another sad day when Pike Brewing was acquired by the Seattle Hospitality Group (which also has controlling stake in Fremont Brewing). The recent news of Pike Brewing's Pike Place Market location closing for good hits the hardest. Whether you enjoyed their beer or not, you can't dismiss or ignore the impacts they made here in the NW and the beer industry overall. They were the 3rd micro brewery to open in Seattle, one of the first to successfully create and market the infamous PNW IPA, and business entrepreneur Rose Ann was a pioneer in helping women get through the industry doors. Their last day of operations is Sunday, November 30 and will be pouring $4 drafts until they close.
Beer Necessities is raising our beers to them on their last day. Come out to where it all began for Beer Necessities, and meet old and new members. Afterwards , we will hop to one other brewery in the downtown/Pike Place Market area (we will be choosing from Old Stove Brewing on the MarketFront, Reuben's Brews on 1st Ave, or the original Cloudburst Brewing taproom on Western Ave).
