#BeersPoliticsEU: "The Rebirth of the Phoenix: Can the EU Rise in Competitiveness from these Geopolitical Flames?"

The Report on "The future of European competitiveness" by former ECB chief and ex-PM of Italy Mario Draghi gave a stark warning to Europe: Get our act together or we will die a slow painful death.

Crucially, the EU is facing two harsh realities that no one before Draghi has made it so loud and clear: the EU is officially an industrial museum, we are not the economic motor we used to be; in the current geopolitical climate when globalisation and peace are no longer the world order, both friends and foes have changed the rules of the game, so the EU should stop acting as if the world has not moved on.

Together we will be exploring the following questions in this session:

  • What are the main reasons for the decline of Europe's global competitiveness?
  • Made in(by) the EU: Will reindustrialisation drive competitiveness?
  • Green energy is the new oil. Can the EU achieve its green goals without sacrificing its industries, and vice versa?
  • Show me the money. Who's blocking the common pooling of finances and why?
  • Innovation drives Entrepreneurship drives Competitiveness. What is going wrong for Europe?

  • Bernard de Clercq, Group EU Affairs, Elia Group
  • Charlotte Gjedde, Chefkonsulent Europapolitik, Dansk Industri

About #BeersPoliticsEU

Harold Tor-Daenens is the official country organiser of Beers & Politics EU - a monthly meetup of EU professionals and ordinary citizens to talk about EU policies and politics. Beers and Politics is the original trademarked movement that grew out of Barcelona a few years ago, and it is now a worldwide movement to democratize the discussion of politics and regulations. It is a voluntary informal setting that allows both EU experts in the Brussels Bubble and citizens to meet and exchange without any institutional sectoral or political baggage.

The format of a Beers & Politics is simple: a speaker or a panel of speakers speak for an hour at most. No powerpoint is allowed. Anyone in the room can interrupt with a question at any point of time. If necessary, the session can be extended by at most 30 minutes of QnA.
