This program will introduce participants to 6 basic ballroom dance rhythms; rumba, waltz, cha-cha, foxtrot, east coast swing, and hustle. We'll learn how to identify music that fits the rhythm. We'll learn and practice the basic rhythm. We'll learn about frame and lead / follow techniques. We'll learn additional figures to help new leaders become more confident on the dance floor.

At Dreamlights Studio, Via Port Rotterdam Mall

Beginner Ballroom Dance Practice

$10 per person
Ages 10 and up
A responsible adult is required to attend with humans younger than 18.

I'll play a list of music that rotates through 6 basic ballroom dances. Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-cha, East Coast Swing, and Hustle.

POTLUCK SNACK TABLE: We'll also have a potluck snack table. Feel free to bring a snack to share. It can be a healthy snack or a treat! I'll have a few items out for people to eat, if you need some extra energy! Water will be provided.

Absolute Beginner Social Ballroom Dance Lessons

We'll rotate between 6 beginner ballroom dances- rumba, waltz, east coast swing, hustle, cha-cha, and foxtrot.

No partner needed- This dance class will focus on helping absolute beginner social ballroom dancers learn and solidify foundational skills. We’ll listen to a variety of music of the focus dances to get a real feel for how to determine if a song has that kind of rhythm. We’ll practice the basic for a bit to really start getting it into our head and feet.
We’ll practice good frame plus lead and follow technique, then we’ll add an extra step or two to give the new leaders confidence on the dance floor!

We’ll work on two to three dances each week. We’ll continually rotate through the 6 beginner dances- waltz, rumba, east coast swing, hustle, foxtrot and cha-cha. We may add merengue and salsa to the mix, according to participants' interests.
