Who is this meetup for?
For beginners! Learn and practice Japanese through games and activities in a fun and friendly environment.
We welcome those who are brand new to Japanese (only a few words), up until beginner (N4 level)*. Your English should also be native or near-native as well, since you will also teach English to your new Japanese friends! 🇨🇦 x 🇯🇵
If you are N3 level or above, please contact us before participating. We accept high level speakers in certain circumstances.
Format (Jan 2026):
- The first 50 minutes is unstructured chatting and studying with fellow English speakers. Japanese native speakers will join in the second half.
- Feel free to bring Japanese study materials.
- Otherwise, I will have games and activities ready for a smoother and fun time.
- After Japanese friends join we will shuffle the tables around.
- Like a teacher, I’m also available to answer questions about English or Japanese during the meetup. 💬
Participation Fee:
This weekend session is $10 for English speakers. We take cash or credit/debit card payments during the event. 💳
Everyone who joins will get a stamp card which can earn you discounted or free meetups.
This Location:
To find the Eglinton food court, you have to exit the station, cross the street, then go downstairs. Once you arrive at the food court, please look for our group (usually at the far corner).
If you are running late, please comment or let us know directly.
Rules:
- We have a strict policy against anti-social behaviours: racism, harassment, or attending for certain other purposes is not allowed. Please report any issues to the organizer.
- In addition, no-shows or last minute cancellations may be subject to removal from the group. If you can't make it, please let us know as soon as possible.
Read this far? Thanks! Hope to see you at our event!
*N5 and N4 are grades from the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test). N5 and N4 are considered beginner, N3 intermediate, and N2 and N1 are advanced.
