Title: Hike to Wolverine Peak from Basher Trailhead – Anchorage, AK
Date & Time: Saturday, 10/25/25, at 9am AKDT
Meeting Location: Basher Trailhead, end of Campbell Airstrip Road. (Look for Laura in a grey Bronco in the parking area.)

Let’s take on the beautiful Wolverine Peak Trail from the Basher Trailhead! This is a moderate-to-challenging hike with rewarding ridge views and a stunning summit overlooking Anchorage, Cook Inlet, and the Chugach Range.
Trail Stats:

  • Distance: ~9 miles round trip
  • Elevation Gain: ~2,800 ft
  • Estimated Duration: 6-7 hours at a steady pace
  • Trail Type: Out-and-back with well-defined paths, some rocky and steep sections near the top

Plan:

  • Meet at 8:45am for intros and prep
  • Step off at 9:00am sharp
  • Expect to return around 4pm depending on group pace

Bring:

  • Sturdy hiking boots or shoes with traction
  • Water (2L recommended) & high-energy snacks
  • Weather-appropriate layers (it can get windy at the summit)
  • Sunglasses & sunscreen
  • Trekking poles (optional)
  • Bear spray and/or noise makers

Parking: Free parking available at Basher Trailhead (can fill up on weekends—arrive early if possible).

Dogs: Welcome on leash.

Caution: this hike is not for the faint of heart. If memory serves, it is challenging. I'm overcoming my own fear of this old foe. Let’s summit Wolverine together and enjoy those sweeping Chugach views!
