Behavior & Emotion Design - Berlin AWC #3

Details

We're happy to present the third Berlin After Work Chat (AWC), this time together with Behavior Science Berlin (https://www.meetup.com/de-DE/Behavioral-Science-Berlin/), discussing with amazing guests the topic: leveraging current behavioral science research for practical applications such as apps and software, technology, and other systems. We'll meet on Thursday, 3 Nov, 7 pm, at Aperto AG - In der Pianofabrik. People working in tech, design, or in the field of behavior and social science on a theoretical or practical level as well as those interested in these topics are more than welcome for this interdisciplinary exchange.

Come to connect with like-minded people and hear talks from a.o. Dr. Jens Rommel (Institute of Socio-Economics at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research) about nudging pro-environmental behavior and Tristan Harris (Time Well Spent) about what is ethical design/influence of a billion people’s attention.

About the speakers

Jens Rommel - Nudging pro-environmental behavior

Jens' talk will give a brief overview on the behavioral foundations of nudging. Based on selected examples of "green nudges," he will discuss how nudges may be used to facilitate pro-environmental and pro-social behavior.

Jens is a postdoc researcher at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research. His research focuses on the behavioral economics of agriculture and the environment.

Tristan Harris - Time Well Spent

Tristan's talk will be around the perils of designing for engagement and what is ethical design/influence of a billion people’s attention.

Tristan leads “Time Well Spent,” a movement for technology that enhances our humanity. Tristan was Design Ethicist at Google until 2016 where he studied how technology affects a billion people’s attention, wellbeing and behavior. Time Well Spent (http://timewellspent.io) is a movement to spark a new conversation about the kind of future we want from the technology industry. Instead of a “time spent” economy where apps and websites compete for how much they get us to spend time, Time Well Spent aims to create an ecosystem competing to help us live by our values and spend time well.

Note: I, Alexander (https://www.meetup.com/de-DE/Behavior-Emotion-Design/members/126941802/), as a organisier, would really love to see a fruitful interdisciplinary exchange and cross-pollination between people working in tech, design, and the field of behavior change on a theoretical or practical level as well as those interested in these topics.
