Here is some background information on this very special winery:
" Castello di Amorosa is the realization of a dream for fourth-generation winemaker Dario Sattui to build an authentically styled 14th-century Tuscan castle winery, honoring his Italian heritage and love for medieval architecture. Vittorio Sattui, founded a winery in San Francisco in 1885. His son Dario traveled through Europe developing an obsession with medieval architecture and gathering ideas for his future project. He purchased 171 acres near Calistoga in 1993, which resembled Tuscany and was an ideal location for his castle winery. Construction took nearly 15 years. Sattui aimed for authenticity, using old, handmade materials and medieval construction methods. The castle utilized over 8,000 tons of local stone and nearly one million antique bricks from Europe, with over 200 containers of materials and furnishings shipped from Italy. Italian artisans were employed for details like hand-forged ironwork and frescoes in the Great Hall. The 121,000-square-foot, 107-room castle includes features of a 14th-century fortress, such as a moat, drawbridge, five towers, a chapel, armory, and a torture chamber with an authentic "iron maiden". Four underground levels house Roman cross-vaulted wine cellars for aging, blending historical architecture with a modern winery."
Look forward to seeing everyone there!!
